1. CAPE VERNACULAR

The style is supposed to refer to the local language of farm architecture in the historic agricultural buildlings of the Cape colonial settlements. Nowadays it is the straight gables, clipped eaves and evenly spaced windows and doors that most distinguish the style.

2. MODERN FRENCH

3. MODERN STYLE

Modern buildings exentuate long lines and bold forms whether they be curved or straight. The purposeful ommission of details such as plaster bands and mouldings creates a feelign of lack of clutter. This style has gained huge popularity in the last two decades and is regarded by some architects as escaping the moulds of style itself. 4. VICTORIAN

The victorian style is characterised by light walls, a dark and steep roof, usually of corrugated iron, as well as bay windows and intricatey designed ironwork. 5. SPANISH

One of the earliest ecclectic styles to be adapted for the upmarket South African suburb from European influences - the Spanish stle is highly flexisble with pitched roofs that need only one side, occasional curved parapets, chimney turrets and preference for SA roof material of choice - clay tiles.




6. NOTTINGHAM TUDOR

7. ENGLISH COUNTRY

The face brick, double story and dormers are typical of English Coutry design. In an African twist the roof is of thatch - grass or reeds sourced locally and packed tight to form a waterproof covering.

8. CAPE DUTCH

The house at Rustenberg farm just outside of Stellenbsoch is one of the few remaining Cape Dutch houses in the Peninsula style - which is characterised by a central protrudign section.
